Image
A heartbreaking incident shook Varanasi when Manoj Prajapati, a 40-year-old contract lineman , lost his life after falling from an electric pole while repairing a high-tension line in Madauli, Varanasi. Despite being rushed for treatment, he tragically died on the way. Manoj, a resident of Harpur Bhaironnath under Mirzamurad police station, was the sole breadwinner for his wife, son, and daughter . His sudden death has pushed the family into deep crisis. Following public outrage and media pressure, the electricity department announced an ex gratia compensation of ₹10 lakhs to the bereaved family. However, this tragedy once again exposes the dire working conditions of contract linemen , who are often forced to work without adequate safety gear or training. Recognizing this as a serious case of negligence and human rights violation , I, Lenin Raghuvanshi , on behalf of the People’s Vigilance Committee on Human Rights (PVCHR), have filed a petition with the National Human Rights Co...

Yet, the daily reality for millions — Dalits, Adivasis, sanitation workers, women, minorities, and the poor — often stands in stark contrast. Despite laws, policies, and Supreme Court judgments,  systemic violence, negligence, and discrimination continue to claim innocent lives . Over the years, I have seen the same tragic patterns repeat themselves: a sanitation worker dying in a sewer, a pregnant woman denied timely blood transfusion, a young man beaten to death in police custody. These are not “accidents” or “isolated lapses.” They are the predictable outcome of  institutional neglect, caste-based hierarchies, and lack of accountability . Through the  People’s Vigilance Committee on Human Rights (PVCHR) , and by approachi...

His death while in police custody raises serious questions of torture, abuse of power, and the continuing crisis of impunity in India’s law enforcement system.
