The Fight for Justice After My Father’s Brutal Murder by Police Officer
The police officers showed no mercy while brutally killing my father.
My name is Sikandar, and I am 25 years old. My father's name was Shri Arjun. I live in Sakina, Post-Sapahi, Police Station-Domchanch, District-Koderma. I belong to the Baniya caste. Our family was so happy that words cannot describe it. I do not know whose evil eye fell upon my family.
The incident took place on April 13, 2022. My father was going about his daily routine, as usual. On that day, around 3 AM, my father left for work on his motorcycle. Little did he know that this would be his last day. On this very day, my father would leave us all. From our house, which is 15 kilometers away from Neeru Pahadi, the Domchanch Police Station in-charge Shashikant Kumar, along with police officers Vikas Paswan, Satish Pandey, Brahmadev Kumar Singh, Ranjit Kumar Singh, and other personnel, forcibly dragged my father into the dense jungle, subjecting him to physical abuse and verbal insults.
In the jungle, they started beating my father. In the midst of the assault, Satish Pandey stole Rs. 10,000 from my father's pocket. Soon after, Vikas Paswan called Ravi Urav and asked him to come, and four more policemen arrived in a white Tata Sumo. As soon as the police officers got out of the vehicle, they began beating my father again. They attacked him with an iron rod and the butt of a rifle before dumping his body in the Ambadaha jungle.
I repeatedly called the police station in distress. When my family started searching for my father and inquired with the police station in-charge Shashikant Kumar, he told us that we would find him in the jungle. The police officers at Domchanch informed us that they had detained my father and left him in the jungle.
In a state of panic, I called my father's mobile number, and the police station in-charge picked up the phone. He informed me that the mobile was at Domchanch Police Station and switched it off. When the phone was switched off, I rushed to the police station and asked where my father was. The police station in-charge told me to go to the jungle, where I would find him.
I immediately rushed toward the jungle, accompanied by around 15 people. We searched frantically in all directions, but there was no sign of my father. As we ventured 2 kilometers deeper into the dense forest of Ambadaha, we finally found my father’s lifeless body. Seeing his body, I lost all control. My world seemed to collapse. I noticed that his ears were bleeding, and one of his eyes had been gouged out. His waist was also bleeding.
In an attempt to destroy the evidence, the police officers had tried to set my father's body on fire by pouring petrol on it. Upon seeing his body, the local villagers became furious and blocked the road at Neeru Pahadi Chowk. During the protest, Annpurna Devi came to reassure us, and Shalini Gupta and Koderma District SP Kumar Gaurav arrived at the scene. They took statements from all the witnesses and, on the spot, suspended the guilty police officers. We were promised that one member of our family would be given a job and that a compensation of at least Rs. 25,00,000 would be provided.
The police then took my father’s body for post-mortem. After the suspension of the Domchanch police station in-charge and the involvement of other police officers, it became clear that my father's death was premeditated. My father was the sole breadwinner of our family. Since his death, our family has been in severe financial distress, and we are struggling to meet our basic needs. Our children’s education has also been greatly affected.
I demand that the perpetrators of my father's murder be held accountable and face legal action for this heinous crime, just as my father was brutally murdered.
Analysis
This is a deeply emotional and harrowing account of a father’s murder and the painful aftermath experienced by his family. The detailed narrative paints a vivid picture of the cruelty and corruption within the police force, illustrating how the perpetrators, who were supposed to protect the public, instead engaged in horrific violence and attempted to cover up their actions. The story highlights systemic abuse, the breakdown of trust between citizens and law enforcement, and the profound personal loss faced by Sikandar’s family.
Key points that stand out include:
- Police Brutality and Corruption: The police officers’ involvement in the murder and their subsequent attempt to cover it up by destroying evidence (setting the body on fire) shows the extent of corruption and the disregard for human life.
- Failure of Accountability: The police did not hesitate to lie, deceive, and cover up their crimes, even silencing the victim's family by switching off his phone. This underlines the lack of accountability within the police system.
- The Impact on the Family: Sikandar’s emotional turmoil and the subsequent financial and emotional strain on the family reflect the long-lasting consequences of such violence, especially when the victim was the sole breadwinner. The challenges they face, from financial instability to the disruption of children’s education, are profound.
- Call for Justice: Sikandar’s demand for legal action against the perpetrators is a powerful plea for justice, reflecting the family's desire for accountability and resolution. The narrative underscores a need for reforms in the justice system to prevent such abuses from happening in the future.
This tragic incident serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of police accountability, the need for transparency in law enforcement, and the devastating impact of violence on the lives of ordinary people.
